I run Read Radius on my own, and I don’t like vague privacy policies any more than you probably do so here’s a straightforward account of what information the site collects, why, and what I do (and don’t do) with it.
What This Covers
This policy applies to what happens on readradius.com the contact form, comments, and any newsletter or update sign-up. It doesn’t cover anything that happens off the site, like if you email me directly outside the contact form or interact with Read Radius on a social platform, which has its own privacy policy.
Information the Site Collects
When you use the contact form: I collect whatever you enter your name, email address, and the message itself so I can actually reply to you. That’s it. There’s no hidden field collecting anything beyond what’s visible on the form.
When you leave a comment: WordPress (the platform this site runs on) stores your name, email, and comment text, along with your IP address, mainly as a spam-prevention measure. Your email address is never shown publicly next to your comment.
When you submit a guest review or article: I collect the content you send along with any bio or portfolio links you choose to include, so I can credit you properly if the piece gets published.
Automatically, like almost every website: basic technical information your browser type, general location (city/country level, not precise), and which pages you visited gets logged by the hosting provider and by Google Analytics, which I use to see which articles are actually getting read. None of this identifies you personally.
Cookies
Read Radius uses cookies for two main things: remembering basic site preferences, and letting Google Analytics and Google AdSense do their jobs (Analytics to show me traffic patterns, AdSense to serve ads). You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time the site will still work, though ads may be less relevant to you and I won’t be able to see return-visitor stats.
Google AdSense Specifically
If ads are running on this site, Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site or other sites on the web. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings. Read Radius doesn’t control how Google’s ad network uses this data beyond what Google’s own policies allow.
What I Don’t Do
I don’t sell your personal information to anyone. I don’t share your email address with third parties for marketing. I don’t use your contact form message for anything other than answering the question you asked.
Third-Party Links
Reviews and guides on this site link out to places like Goodreads, Amazon, publisher pages, and author websites. Once you click through, you’re on their site and subject to their privacy policy, not mine. I’d encourage a quick look at any site’s policy before sharing information there.
Your Rights
You can ask me at any time to:
- Tell you what personal information I have on file for you (usually just a contact form submission or comment)
- Correct anything that’s wrong
- Delete your information entirely
Just reach out through the contact page and I’ll handle it directly there’s no automated system standing between you and an actual answer.
Keeping Your Data Reasonably Safe
I take reasonable precautions to protect the information collected through this site, but no website can guarantee 100% security that’s true of every site on the internet, not just this one. If you’re ever concerned about something you’ve submitted, let me know.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes in any meaningful way, I’ll update the date at the top of this page. I don’t expect to make major changes often, since the site’s data practices are pretty simple.
