Some fictional characters are memorable because of their actions, while others stand out because of the way they speak. A character’s dialogue can reveal their personality, sense of humor, fears, values, and even the things they are trying to hide.
Which character do you think has the most memorable dialogue? Maybe they always have a clever comeback, speak in a distinctive way, or say something important at exactly the right moment.
I’d love to hear which book the character comes from and what makes their dialogue work so well. Is it the writing style, their personality, the conversations they have with other characters, or the way their words change as the story progresses? You can discuss the character without quoting long passages from the book.
I think dialogue is especially effective when different characters have recognizable voices. If you can remove the character names from a conversation and still tell who is speaking, the author has probably done a great job. Word choice, sentence length, humor, and confidence can all help distinguish characters.
